On Friday morning, a tiny baby kangaroo was discovered in an Australia Post mailbox by an employee. The tiny joey had been pushed through the swing “door’ of the red street mailbox at Pimpama on the Gold Coast.
According to the Qld Fire & Emergency, stated a customer heard noise coming from within the mailbox and called the fire department. No one knows how the joey ended up there.
“Our Pimpama Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) crew was called to an Australia Post box at Woongoolba on the Gold Coast after a baby kangaroo had been put inside.
A quick response from our crew, as well as Australia Post with the post box keys, meant the joey was out in no time. Pleased to report our furry friend is in the hands of wildlife carers.”
The joey has been sent to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary Wildlife Hospital for treatment. An animal cruelty investigation is underway. A spokesperson for the hospital said the baby joey was being “assessed.”
Anyone with information about this heartless act of animal cruelty is urged to contact the animal cruelty hotline at 1300 ANIMAL.
