Officials in British Columbia, Canada, have seized a mother dog who was forced to consume drugs and alcohol. As reported by Saanich News, the mother dog, and her litter of puppies, were taken in by the BC SPCA in northern B.C., following a tip from a concerned citizen who stated that the dog had been beaten and forced to consume toxic substances.
The four-year-old German short-haired pointer, and her 10 puppies, were taken to a veterinarian and exams revealed evidence of fractures, scars, and toxicology confirmed the consumption of “substances.”
Rachel Cook, animal welfare officer, North Cariboo District Branch, stated that the mother dog has maintained a sweet disposition, despite the abuse. She said:
“Mama dog loves humans. She wants to sit on your lap. She wants to hold hands with her paw. She’s just so sweet.”
The two-week-old puppies will be cared for by the animal welfare agency until they are old enough to be adopted to new families. The mother dog will also be made available for adoption after she has been spayed and recuperated from her injuries.
