A call regarding a potential arson case in Marion County, Mississippi, led to the seizure of more than 30 dogs. As reported by WDAM News, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the arson report on Thursday afternoon and found over 34 dogs.

According to the news agency, Daron Lee allegedly set fire to another person’s mobile home following a dispute about dogs – Lee was arrested and is facing an arson charge. Another man, identified as Lonnell Pittman, was arrested for animal cruelty. The specifics of Pittman’s alleged wrong-doing were not released.

On May 18, the Columbia Police Department Animal Control & Rescue Facebook page reached out to the public regarding the case, writing:

This morning we went out and seized the remaining dogs from the animal cruelty case. We have taken in a total of 34 dogs. We only have 32 kennels at this shelter and we already had close to 25 dogs here before we took all of these in. We are desperate for adopters/fosters. If you’re interested in adoption please send us a message.

A subsequent post indicates that the dogs are not available for adoption until the investigation is over.

The dogs we took in from this case are NOT currently adoptable BECAUSE THEY ARE ON A LEGAL HOLD! We cannot comment any further.
