In Chicago, an airline cargo service at O’Hare International Airport has been cited for animal cruelty and neglect after more than a dozen dogs were left in a warehouse with no food or water for three days. One dog died.
According to CbsChicagoNews, police found the 17 dogs in a cage on Monday afternoon after receiving a tip that dogs had been abandoned in a warehouse without proper care. Another dog had already died the prior day.
The dogs arrived at the airport on August 28 and were left in the warehouse after Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) refused to allow the people who purchased them to take them home because of issues with the dogs’ vaccination documents. The dogs arrived on the airline service Alliance Ground International and had been shipped on a 13-hour trip from Amman, Jordan.
Chicago Animal Care and Control rescued two of the dogs in good condition – a German shepherd and a Belgian Malinois; an animal shelter has taken the other dogs reported to be French bulldogs, according to a spokesperson.
Representatives from the airline company denied neglecting the dogs and stated they walked, fed, watered, cleaned the dogs and moved them to an air-conditioned part of their warehouse.
