Aiken County authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying the man caught on surveillance video breaking into the county animal shelter and abusing dogs. Tragically, this isn’t the first time the same man has broken into the shelter. On Monday, another break-in occurred; this stated to be the fifth time.

The crimes have been going on for more than a year – so far six large female dogs have been taken. Five were found on the shelter property. The culprit has not breached the indoor part of the shelter; he only takes animals from the outside kennels.

According to WjbfNews,  the most recent surveillance photo released by police  show the man walking around the shelter. In a few moments he removes a dog from its kennel. All of the dogs except one were found shortly after the break-in, however one of the dogs showed signs of trauma to his body. Fortunately that dog has been adopted and will be going home to her new family in a week if she remains healthy – both mentally and physically.

Each time the man has broken into the kennel, the shelter has added more security. Additional cables were installed on each of the kennels. Then padlocks were added and secured to the tops of the kennels. Nothing seems to stop the unidentified man.

“it’s not right. It’s not right that this guy to come in here and take dogs and doing what he’s doing,” stated Bobby Authurs, a manager at the Aiken County Animal Shelter.

“Sunday, he actually took some kind of tool and pried open the latch and broke the latch, that the lock holds… He’s finding new ways to get in because when we had the first one taken, we just didn’t ever imagine with the perimeter being locked, that we had to lock everything down.”

The shelter is begging the public for help. Staff and volunteers are appalled at what this man is allegedly doing to the dogs. Veterinarian examinations have shown bruising in the vaginal areas. Anyone who recognizes him is asked to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at 803.642.1761.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’8” to 5’10”, 135 to 155 pounds and of unknown age.

Help these innocent animals find justice. Help get this man off the streets.
