Rescue dog finally gets a home

A dog who waited for years to be chosen by an adopter is finally getting his second chance. As reported by NBC 15, the senior pit bull, Goliad, waited patiently for three years with a Wisconsin area rescue group and he is finally going to his very own “forever home.”

Goliad was found on the streets in Houston, Texas, before being taken in by Albert’s Dog Lounge in Whitewater. Others dogs found their permanent homes through the years, but Goliad’s breed (pit bull), and the fact that he’s a bit older (eight years now), and deaf, worked against him.

In April, the rescue group posted information about Goliad, with the hope that it would lead to an adoption:

So, my favorite things are walks and naps. I really like laying on the couch, and even in my kennel. In my foster home we have an open door policy on my kennel, so I get to choose where I want to lay. I like that. I can’t hear any noises because I’m deaf, so that means I’m not scared of things like thunder or fireworks. But, you know, I haven’t had the greatest life, because I’m scared of brooms and if you raise your hand too fast, I cower and I think you might hurt me, even if you aren’t mad at me. When my foster mom found me I was skinny and really weak. Now she has made sure I’m healthy, and have gained weight. She says I deserve so much more than what I’ve had in my past, where I never have to worry about food or being hurt again. Maybe that could be with you!

The years of care and hard work finally paid off – a couple submitted a wonderful application for Goliad, and it appears that it is a match made in heaven. Mandy Lewis, the rescue agency’s founder, tells the news agency:

In fact, the adopter of Goliad is a trained teacher for hearing impaired students. So she was specifically looking for a deaf dog.

Enjoy your new life Goliad!
