Adopters walk away from 7-year-old Lab because he’s ‘too old and too big’

At Miami-Dade Animal Services, a seven-year-old Labrador retriever mix named Amarillo was surrendered by his owner, and no one has come to adopt him since that very sad day. The friendly senior has been at the shelter for several weeks with no interest.

“I heard my owner say …’out with the old, in with the new’ and I find myself back here again after 5 years later. I was wanted as a playful one year old but ignored as a 6 year old with a broken heart.

They walk by me and think … he’s too big, he’s too old, he’s too sad.

What do you think? If so, will it be forever this time?,” a volunteer posted on their social media page.

PetHarbor listing:

“I am a neutered male tan Labrador Retriever mix. The shelter staff think I am about 6 years old and I weigh 86 pounds. I was turned in by my owner and I am available for adoption.” Make sure to reference #A1619769 when inquiring about this beautiful boy.

He walks great on the leash and seems friendly with the dogs he encounters. He had a meet and greet but they have not made up their minds yet as they need to bring their dog to check out if they get along. In addition to his good looks, Amarillo is potty trained, very playful and affectionate. He will sit on command and just loves to hang out by your side. He walks well on the leash and seems friendly with the dogs he encounters. He had a “meet and greet” however the people who met him have not made up their mind yet and still need to bring back their dog to check out if the dogs get along.

Please share Amarillo’s plight with friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
