A dog, adopted from a Texas animal shelter in March 2019, was returned this week to the same shelter in such poor condition that he was too weak to stand. The dog, named Roland, has no body fat because he adoptive family stated that they had no money to feed him. The sorrowful situation was recounted by Jamie’s Animal Rescue on Wednesday morning:
When you hear of Roland’s story, it will make you angry. Roland (formerly known as shorty) was adopted from MCAS in March 2019. He was a chubby little 40 lb Heeler at that time, I’ve included his previous shelter pic. On 11/3, he was surrendered to the same shelter…weighing 18 lbs.
Adding:
He has lost so much muscle that he cannot stand or walk. After a few very small meals and Rebound vitamin supplement, he was finally able to lift his head. His owners said it was because they’re homeless now (living in their car) and couldn’t feed him
This level of starvation did not happen quickly…Roland’s owners watched him wither away and did nothing. They very easily could have surrendered him to the animal shelter before he wasted away to just skin and bones.
Though Roland has been terribly wronged, his sweet demeanor remains intact. The rescue group writes:
Despite the starvation, Roland is a sweet dude who wags his tail when you talk to him. He has a recovery ahead of him but within weeks he will be a different dog!
Roland has a long road to recovery ahead of him. The rescue group is taking donations to help with his ongoing care:

STARVE THE F****** LUNATICS–THEY WILL GET TO HELL FASTER!
Why on earth would these POSs starve their furbaby? This behavior makes no sense…… This cruel and disgusting neglect was totally unacceptable and preventable!!!
There are ways for people to get help for themselves and their furbabies. Many food banks will provide pet food in addition to human food…..
If they couldn’t get help, then surrender their dog (after exhausting friends and family and rescues to adopt)…… But don’t starve the furbaby to near death……
I bet they ate bet they weren’t skin and bones… bastards!!! they could of shared their food wth him and not let him starve, idk if they are living in their car!!! They will find out 1 day what it is to starve then they’ll know what poor Roland went thu!! KARMA!
