In Pontevedra, Spain, authorities discovered an abhorrent act of animal cruelty after a man carried out an “unnecessary home amputation” on his dog’s front leg.
According to EuroWeeklyNews, residents in Moana spotted a frightened dog struggling to walk near the road. Several Good Samaritans caught up with the pooch and when they picked him up noticed part of his limb missing covered with a bandage. When the local Nature Protection Service was called out to help, they removed the bandage and found a gaping wound – the dog had recently had his leg amputated.
The dog’s leg was severely infected and inflamed; the dog was rushed to a nearby veterinarian. A microchip lead the authorities to the dog’s owner who allegedly admitted to amputating the dog’s leg at home. The man only told police the dog had hurt his leg – no meaningful answer for the amateur amputation.
The dog is being treated at the veterinarian’s office, and it is hoped he will make a full recovery and be offered for adoption. His owner has been charged with animal cruelty. The man’s name has not been released.
