Abandoned German shepherd dog died from apparent pill overdose

In St. Clair County, Alabama, two Good Samaritans discovered an emaciated German shepherd senior lying in the road. It appeared as if the dog had overdosed on pills – pills were scattered all around the dog.

The woman who found the dog believes the dog was dumped by the person who fed him the pills. She also believed the dog lived on a chain all his life.

According to WbrcNews, St. Clair County deputies came to investigate and then a Pell City Animal Control officer took the dog to the shelter and to a veterinarian. The  dog had severe medical issues.

“We sent this poor old fellow to the vet today for evaluation and blood work. Blood work showed he had kidney and liver damage, his glucose was extremely low, his red blood cell count was almost non-existent, he had heartworms and the worst case of hookworm infestation the vet has seen in a long time. Unfortunately, he passed away while at the vet. Thank you to those that found him and helped get him to us. While we weren’t able to save him, at least we can take comfort in the fact he did not pass alone and his last hours were comfortable and safe with people who cared for him. Thank you again to all.”

No one knows the history of the dog or where he came from, but he may have been dumped. He was found  at the intersection of Center Star and Morgan Bridge Road in Ragland. If you know him or his owners, please contact the Center at 205-814-1567.

The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Juana Corbin says investigators are looking into the incident. If you have any information, please contact the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 254-7777.

Rest in peace dear dog.
