A shelter struggles with uptick in surrenders thanks to fallout from pandemic

A California animal shelter is struggling with pet surrenders thanks to hardships families are facing from the pandemic. As reported by the Desert Sun, the Palm Springs Animal Shelter is seeing an uptick in owner surrenders from people who are facing financial hardships or new, non-pet friendly living situations.

Catie Voglio, marketing and graphics specialist for the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, explained to the news agency:

We’ve received more animal surrenders that people are saying is due to loss of wages, loss of work and they’re having to move back in with family. The family doesn’t always have space for the person and their animals.”
