Mountain lions killed

3 mountain lions found feeding on human killed, even though they weren’t responsible for person’s death

Officials in Arizona killed three mountain lions found consuming human remains near a popular canyon hiking trail. According to multiple sources, the mountain lions are not believed to be responsible for the death of the person who was being eaten not far from the Pima Canyon Trail.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department decided that the mountain lions needed to be lethally removed because their behavior was “abnormal.” Regional Supervisor Raul Vega explains to KVOA News:

“Mountain lions are not routinely scavengers. A mountain lion eating human remains is abnormal behavior. Those that do are more likely to attack a human being in the future. In addition, they did so 50 yards from a popular hiking trail and within sight of homes, and repeatedly showed no fear of responding officers. They were a clear and present danger to public safety.”

The cause of the person’s death was not immediately known – the body is undergoing an autopsy on Thursday.
