20-year-old blind dog hadn’t walked in a year – a tragic reminder about the need for grooming

On Tuesday, the Humane Society of Central Texas shared a heartbreaking story to emphasize the importance of grooming for long-haired dogs. The animal welfare organization recounted the story of a 20-year-old dog named Sadie Mae who was surrendered to their facility this week. The agency writes:

This sweet 20 year old dog was brought in to #HSCTX today. She hasn’t walked in a year, she’s blind, and she hasn’t eaten in a week. Her fur was matted to the skin resulting in sores all over her body.

The shelter pleaded for compassion for the dog’s family, who apparently loved her so much that they were in denial about her dire condition. The shelter explained:

They could not afford grooming and didn’t think to reach out for help until now because they didn’t realize the serious, potentially fatal medical conditions that come from lack of grooming.

The important take-away

The animal shelter explained why this Sadie Mae’s story was shared with the public, writing:

We are sharing this, not to break your heart, but so you will help us let people know that long haired dogs must be groomed. No dog should be matted to the point that they are unable to relieve themselves or move their limbs. If you know of someone who has a matted dog and they cannot care for the dog or they just don’t know how to, please tell them to call or email us, and we will help!

Sadie Mae has since passed away. Rest in peace sweet girl.

Whoever neglected this precious little treasure for YEARS (instead of taking her to a shelter or rescue group or a veterinarian or a groomer) has earned themselves a reserved spot in the hottest part of Hell for eternity for their cruelty!!!

Precious little treasure, I am very sorry that your humans failed you. I know you are absolutely in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends.
