How does an owner surrender their 13-year-old Labradoodle to a shelter because the pet’s arthritis is too much upkeep? It seems the kids have all grown up and left the home, so Burt becomes disposable?
Burt was surrendered to the Cobb County Animal Services in Marietta, Georgia on Sunday. He is a sweet and well-behaved dog who is good with children, good with other pets and is house trained.
“His person said he no longer wanted Burt because Burt was now old and had arthritis and had a hard time with steps. He said the kids were all grown, and he just did not want the upkeep. Burt is as sweet and as well-behaved as he can be. He sits when told although that seems to be a bit difficult for him. The shelter staff has lined his cage with blankets and a nice bed, but the concrete floors are still hard on him,” the shelter posted on their social media page.
…Burt’s former person said he ran out of Burt’s arthritis medicine 2 weeks ago and didn’t buy any more, so Burt would love to get out of the shelter very soon and back into a home with a soft bed and meds to help his aging body.”
He is waiting to meet his new family in kennel 881, and his ID is 624109. He is 73 pounds of pure love.

This precious treasure is a wonderful family member. Burt deserves to be treated like a beloved family member instead of being treated as “disposable”……..
