In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a senior Yorkshire terrier was abandoned outside of an animal shelter on Monday. She had been sealed in a plastic container and left to die.

According to the Pennsylvania SPCA, where the dog, was abandoned outside of the building, temperatures exceeded 90 degrees, and it is not clear how long the dog had been left there before a volunteer discovered her dangerous plight.

“Luckily for Gertie, an attentive volunteer saw the container and opened it up to find Gertie inside. Gertie was covered with fleas and a coating of flea dirt, but otherwise spunky and strong.

We named her Gertie because Gertude means ‘spear of strength.'”

Gertie only weighs four pounds, and it is hoped she can gain some weight quickly and start feeling better. She is one perky pooch according to her caregivers. There are no clues as to her owner. Anyone with information is urged to contact the SPCA at (215) 426-6300.

To help with her recovery, donations can be made by clicking here.

  1. I keep getting the feeling that the demons of HELL are
    being unleashed on EARTH!

PLEASE help Gertie! It is a miracle that she is still alive!

  2. If this precious little treasure were in CA, I would offer to foster her. If anyone is coming from PA to Northern California, I would be happy to help…….

That poor furbaby…… Absolutely disgusting……. How can someone do this and still like what they see in the mirror looking back at them???

It’s absolutely heartbreaking how awful and callous some individuals can be to defenseless animals…… who were supposed to be treated as treasured family members……

I can’t understand how anyone would abandon a treasured senior family member……. How can anyone be so cruel to a loving family member when they are most in need of love and support??? Precious Treasure Gertie, your life matters, I am very sorry that you were failed so horribly by your humans……..

I would give anything to have had more time with our treasured MacKitty…… Our precious furbabies are family members and are with us forever (from adoption day to their last breaths of life)…….. Whilst I hate seeing senior treasures in a shelter (@ least they are in a place that is protected from predators, fed, watered, and hopefully rehomed), they have a chance for a new furever home, where they will be treasured family members…….

It is tragic to think of them dying in the shelter alone, afraid and worst of all unloved……

As for her cruel former so called family, they have reserved spots in Hell waiting for them where they will burn forever for their cruelty……..
