In Shalersville, Ohio, the woman accused of shooting her dog named Gemma  last year was sentenced to jail on Monday. Annette Musser, 38, will serve six-months in jail.

According to the Ohio Dispatch, Musser shot her 16-month-old American bulldog while she was drunk in September. She pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty in December. Judge Laurie Pittman stated is had been “beyond comprehension” how anyone could have shot their own dog.

In court, Musser’s attorney told the judge her client loved Gemma, but the dog had become aggressive. Fortunately, the dog was not killed, and was seized by the Animal Protective League; she received several surgeries after having had been shot in the shoulder.

In addition to the 180 days in the Portage County jail, Musser was fined $300 and ordered to pay $3,216.08 in restitution to the Portage Animal Rescue League for the dog’s surgeries. Once released from jail, she will be required to serve community control. In addition, she is not allowed to own animals for the next five years, and as a felon is not allowed to own or possess a gun.

Gemma is still at the shelter and is available for adoption.

“Gemma’s owner was sentenced today and here is the story. Thank you to everyone who has shared, cared and donated to help her. She is still waiting for her forever home and we hope she will find it soon. We are so happy to be able to help her and animals like her thanks to your support. Thank you to the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, Prosecutors office and Judge Pitman for making sure she was charged with a felony and got jail time, which is rare,” posted the Portage Animal Protective League on their social media page.

  1. This Psychopathic Bitch Needs to be Taken care by the Broom Patrol while incarcerated and Taught NOT to ABUSE or TORTURE ANIMAL”S …!!!

  2. I’m glad this POS got jail time but it should have been way more. It’s good to see she has to pay for the medical bills for her dog and will not be able to own a fire arm again. This is a step in the right direction but more needs to be done to prevent this!
