A woman who left her dog to die in a parked car in Green Bay, Wisconsin, made a court appearance on Wednesday. As reported by WBAY News, 55-year-old Debbie J. Rohloff waived her preliminary hearing and the case will move forward.
Rohloff is facing a felony count of Mistreatment of Animals and a misdemeanor count of Fail to Provide Proper Food and Drink to Confined Animals for the July 11 incident which claimed the life of her golden retriever. Rohloff left her dog inside of the vehicle, in the Lambeau Field parking lot, for three hours while she attended a meeting. The windows on the car were not cracked and the dog was left in direct sunlight, without any water.
Rohloff provided no explanation for her decision to leave the dog inside of the parked vehicle – and she acknowledged that she was aware that the dog was inside of the car (and not forgotten).
A necropsy confirmed that the dog, whose name was Kaylee, died from heatstroke.
