A 39-year-old woman from Petawawa, Ontario has been banned for life from owning pets after her dog was found in a sealed trash bin bound with straps outside of her home in July 2018. Earlier this week, Pamela Oderkirk pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

According to the Ottawa Sun,  the one-year-old Labrador and shepherd mix had been locked inside of a garbage can and left at the curb. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stated the trash bin had been secured with two bungee cords. The dog is believed to have been trapped inside of the trash bin for several hours. Fortunately, when the dog was rescued, he did not suffer any injuries.

Oderkirk was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment to be served in the community; the first 20 days under house arrest. She was also sentenced to a lifetime prohibition on owning animals and ordered to pay $500 to the Ontario SPCA.

The dog was voluntarily surrendered and has since been adopted.

To report animal cruelty, contact the Ontario SPCA’s province-wide animal cruelty hotline at 310-SPCA (7722).

  1. So glad this baby was found in time!! And very happy she was adopted!! I’m glad the owner was arrested with some punishment

  2. Also put her in a trash can secured with bungee cords and prevent her from getting. Exactly what she did to this dog, nothing more but the same treatment to her.
