A New York woman has been arrested for the extreme neglect of a dog who was being starved. According to the SPCA of Westchester, Michelle DiGennaro of Mohegan Lake has been charged with animal cruelty for failing to provide adequate food, water and veterinary care for a senior dog dubbed Boomer.

SPCA of Westchester’s Humane Law Enforcement Unit investigated an “emergency situation” regarding a skeletal dog – their discovery was heartbreaking. Boomer, a senior hound/cattle dog mix, was is dismal condition from being horribly neglected. The senior dog was allegedly being kept outside in an enclosure for months and when he was found, he weighed just half of what a dog his size should weigh.

Aside from being malnourished, Boomer had severe ear infections, horribly overgrown nails and untreated luxating patella’s and arthritis.

Boomer is recovering from neglect under the care of the shelter’s team – you can make a donation towards his ongoing care at this link.
