An Ohio woman is facing felony animal cruelty charges for allegedly trying to kill her dogs with insulin. As reported by News 5 Cleveland, the 44-year-old woman admitted to giving two dogs 30 doses of insulin in an effort to “euthanize” them.

According to the Times Reporter, the woman’s insulin injections killed one German shepherd – a second shepherd survived after receiving emergency veterinary treatment at the Stark County Humane Society.

The motivation

The woman told authorities that her dogs were involved in a fight with another dog a the mobile home park where she resides. She claims that she was ordered by the park manager to have her dogs euthanized within 24 hours.

The woman, who claims she did not have the money for a veterinarian, decided to administer insulin after researching the internet for a way to euthanize a dog at home.

The charges

The woman, whose name has not been released, is facing two felony counts of prohibitions against companion animals; she was booked into the Stark County Jail on Thursday and has already been released on bond.
