In East Patchogue, New York, a woman has been accused of abandoning her dog in a dark basement with no food or water. On Saturday, the Suffolk County SPCA charged Candace Diperi, 28, with animal cruelty.

According to the animal welfare organization, the six-year-old coonhound named Daisy, was found confined in the dark basement living in feces and urine with no sustenance. She was rescued and transported to Brookhaven Animal Shelter.

Chief Gross states no animal cruelty will be tolerated in Suffolk County. Diperi is scheduled to appear in court on July 31, 2019.
