A very good dog performed a final act of devotion and loyalty to his family before dying. As reported by Fox 13 News, Zippy, a Jack Russell terrier, successfully alerted his family to a fire which was quickly spreading throughout their Bradenton, Florida, home.

The Butler family’s smoke detector briefly sounded…but it was Zippy’s persistent efforts, barking and running from room to room to rouse each slumbering member of the household, which saved them. Each and every person made it out of the burning house, but it was too late for Zippy.

His owner, Leroy, told the news agency that the flames and heat prevented him from pulling his little dog to safety, adding:

The floor in the living room was all on fire so there was nowhere for him to run out. Even if the smoke was this high. He was a short little dog. There was nowhere for him to go,”

Firefighters found the heroic dog dead inside of the structure after the flames were extinguished. The family mourns the loss of their companion, telling Fox:

“We adopted him as a pet, so we can only, I can only say he was a good dog. He only did what he could,”

Rest in peace Zippy.

    • I was wondering the same thing, someone couldn’t grab him and take him with them? Yes Zippy is a hero, but I find it hart to take that he died.

      • I agree. If I had been there, I would have scooped him up…… Zippy, I am very sorry your humans failed you…….

Zippy, I know you are in Heaven. Please look for MacKitty and join his wonderful snuggle buddies group and RIP amongst loving friends…….

  2. There is no greater love than a dog for his family–I probably would have died to save him! In any case, Zippy has a “very special place” in heaven!
