In Florence, Alabama, an eight-week-old puppy was discovered on Friday night abandoned on the side of a road. He had been hit over the head with a hammer.
Dubbed Tyler, the defenseless puppy was transported to an emergency veterinarian nearly an hour away, when Rescue Dogs Rock NYC were called to help. And when he arrived, as he was being examined after having been sedated, part of his skull fell away from his tiny head. In addition, this little fellow had been coughing and was covered in fleas and ticks.
Tyler rested at the emergency veterinarian hospital for the weekend and remained on intravenous fluids, antibiotics and pain medication. He has been treated for internal parasites as well as sarcoptic mange. His head wound continues to be monitored for infection.
“He is going to have skull xrays today & more bloodwork. His immune system is very compromised due to the trauma, poor nutrition, parasites etc., so he has a lot to fight off right now. His wound was closed by the first vet, but it may have to be reopened for proper drainage & wound care. Please keep this special little guy in your thoughts & prayers & donate if you can,” Stacey Silverstein, the co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rocks NYC, wrote on the organization’s Facebook page.
On Monday afternoon, Tyler was transferred from the emergency veterinarian hospital to the rescue’s primary Georgia veterinarian along with his sister, Trisha.
