In Hempstead, New York, a video of students forcing a pup to drink beer from a keg went viral this past weekend – with more than 100,000 views. The tweet has been retweeted 1,400 times. Originally posted on SnapChat, Kristinaproscia shared the disturbing five-second content on Twitter with the following comment:
“So apparently it’s okay to force dogs to drink beer even though it can kill them? Pls do better…”
“…forcing beer down a dog’s throat has to be animal cruelty right?,” another Twitter user wrote.
The video showed the small yellow Cavalier Spaniel standing on a table wagging his tail. The puppy is believed to be between five and ten months of age. One man then grabbed the puppy, lifted him up and turned him upside down over a silver beer keg.
“Let’s go, keg stand!” someone yelled as another man held the tap near the puppy’s mouth as it squirmed vigorously with its legs to escape.
A stream of foam squirts out of the keg forcing the liquid into the puppy’s mouth. Laughter could be heard in the background, and the entire video was captured on video and shared to social media over the weekend. The puppy belongs to a senior fraternity member who participated in the video, The dog has now been placed in the care of the SPCA.
“Our paramount concern is the safety of the dog,” stated Gary Rogers, a spokesperson for the Nassau County SPCA. “The dog is no longer in that environment… and appeared to be in good condition.”
According to NbcNews, the Long Island university confirmed on Monday that the fraternity Alpha Epsilon Pi has been suspended pending the results of the investigation.
No matter what, it’s rather disturbing that someone would make this decision to do this to an animal,” Rogers said. “Alcohol can be poisonous to an animal. We hear about frat hazing all the time. We shouldn’t have frat hazing to animals.
