An emaciated dog chained to a home in Chinchilla, Queensland whose heartbreaking photo went viral on Tuesday has been rescued and is in the care of a Gold Coast rescue group.
The distressing situation caused a public outcry as hundreds of calls flooded into the Queensland Police, the RSPCA and the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
“Please please someone save this dog. It has NO water and clearly no food. It has NO shelter and no chain length. This dog will die any day!,” Kitt Kat Care posted on their Facebook page Tuesday morning.”
Mika Dargie, the founder of Kitt Kat Care updated the group on Wednesday stating the emaciated dog and another pet from the home were safe in the care of the rescue organization.
“The dogs are safe at the moment. Threats were made against youths in the home and we need to protect children just as much as animals,” she wrote. “Will do an update tomorrow with a plan.”
According to Mika, one other dog was surrendered including the dog shown in the photo. Two other dogs on the property looked healthy and remain with the owners. Volunteers were escorted onto the property by police.
At this time, Mika has refused donations for the dog believed to be named Duke. He is currently being assessed at a veterinarian to determine his condition.
The maximum penalty for a person found guilty of animal cruelty under the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 is a $260,000 fine and three years in prison.

What sub human is responsible for this?
Thank you, Great Samaritans! If and when donations are needed, please let us know!
Why is it two dogs are healthy and two have been neglected and abused? I don’t understand that at all!
Glad most are safe… hoping they go back & get the other 2…
