A teen, who trespassed onto a homeowner’s property in Irving, Texas, died after being attacked by three dogs who were inside of the fenced yard. According to multiple sources, a 16-year-old male was inside of a yard at 4:45 a.m. on Saturday when the homeowner’s three dogs attacked.

Officers responding to the scene jumped over the fence to help the teen, identified as Nelson Cabrera, and in the process, one of the attacking dogs was shot after going after an officer. The boy was transported to a Dallas-area hospital for care but ultimately died from his injuries.

The dogs’ owner, Guillermo Lorenzo, told Dallas News,

“He has no right to be in that yard. Nobody has a right to be in that yard. This is private property. That’s why the fence is tall.”

He added that his dogs were simply trying to protect him from the teen who entered his yard without permission.

Irving police public information officer Robert Reeves stated:

“We don’t want to speculate on what he might have been doing, but we definitely don’t know why he was in that backyard.”

The dog shot by the police has been euthanized because of the severity of her injuries. The two remaining dogs are being held by Irving Animal Care Campus. The dogs’ owner is not expected to face any charges.

  1. Anyone want to bet what is going to happen to the two remaining dogs? I hate to see someone killed by dogs but it sounds like the kid was up to no good. Why else would he jump a fence into someone’s yard. Rest in peace poor dog, and hoping the others don’t get sentenced to death.

  2. I am very sorry for the family’s loss of one of their dogs. I hope they can get the other two back….. Those dogs were “doing their job to protect the family and their home”…… They should NOT be punished (euthanized) for “doing their job”…..

There ARE consequences for trespassing onto someone else’s property and sometimes those consequences are “not pretty”….. The time, 4:45am, pretty much “tells the observer that this teen was “up to no good””…… Unless there was a fishing trip planned, airplane travel, or a hunting trip planned with the residents of the home (& presumably the dogs would be “familiar with family friends”), there was NO REASON for that teen to be in the yard…..
