In Butler County, Ohio, the owner of an emaciated dog discovered with open wounds just days ago, has been charged with animal cruelty.  On Friday evening, despite the best attempts to save the dog named Lou, his body could no longer fight.

Just five days ago, Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones looked at the dog and shared the heartbreaking news about the dog’s condition:

“No normal human being could look at this dog and think this is acceptable. The pictures are hard to view. It’s much worse in person. Animal Friends will do everything they can to save this poor animal, but the current condition is very bad. I am thankful that this was reported. I just hope he can be saved and adopted to someone who cares.”

Animal Friends Humane Society stepped up to help Lou, and are thankful the dog didn’t die alone chained up in the backyard of his dilapidated and filthy area.

“This post is not an easy one, and definitely one we hoped to never have to write. Our sweet Lou fought a hard battle, but ultimately lost the fight. We are so proud of how brave and strong he was these last 5 days. This is so unfair. He deserved so much better than this. We are at a loss for words at this time, but we want to thank everyone for their support this week. We do take comfort in knowing that Lou didn’t die alone, chained up in a backyard, left to fend for himself. We will seek justice for him. We love you, Lou. RIP.”

Earlier Friday, the organization wrote on their Facebook page that Lou had taken “another unfortunate turn for the worse and needed to be transferred this morning to an emergency vet clinic.” His breathing had become labored and, he had been showing signs of neurological damage suspected to have been caused by a fungal infection.

David Neanover, 36, the dog’s owner has been charged with animal cruelty to a companion animal.

  1. I hope this despicable person gets the maximum sentence but knowing most of the states laws it will never be enough for poor Lou. Rest in peace Lou, your pain is over.
