Tragic outcome for abused Ryker and a stark reminder as we meet Wilson

From the moment Ryker’s photo was posted on social media, an entire rescue community in Houston joined together to help a dog so emaciated and covered in mange, sores and abrasions, he was barely able to stand.

“This baby was under a house and would no longer get up. They crawled under and managed to get him to safety and straight to the hospital,” Chip N Snip, the rescue organization from Highland, Texas posted on their Facebook page along with the heartbreaking photos of a near death dog.”

Tragically, as much as his medical team tried and as much as his advocates prayed for his recovery, Ryker died on Sunday night. When his doctors went to check on him, Ryker had slipped away quietly.

“We don’t know why this path was chosen for Ryker. It saddens us deeply. Maybe he was meant to be the face that finally makes a difference and brings change to the city. Maybe he was meant to be the one who unites us,” the Chip N Snip group posted on Facebook.

Over the weekend, at least four other dogs in critical condition were rescued. Meet Wilson; it is very possible this was how Ryker’s downward spiral began, except no one came to his aid.

“This is Houston. This is rescue. Something has to change.”

At Who Rescued Who, Wilson’s life changed on Sunday –  rescued just before  the announcement that Ryker had died.

“Your life has been a nightmare until TODAY.
You have open wounds, Sarcoptic Mange, Demodex, many infections and headed to the vet first thing tomorrow. Your next few days will be rough, but know we are going to do everything you can to keep you comfortable,” the rescue posted accompanied by Wilson’s heartbreaking photos showing his egregious neglect.

Hopefully Ryker’s tragic life and death will inspire change. Be the voice for those who cannot speak. Just don’t walk away.
