In Johnson City, Tennessee, the Washington County-Johnson City Animal Shelter needs help. In less than a week, 140 animals have arrived, and the shelter is in desperate need of help from animal advocates.

“We are in desperate need of dog food!!! The shelter took in 43 animals yesterday!! 43 animals in ONE day,” the organization posted on their Facebook page. “Most were dogs – some are cruelty cases. We are extremely low on dry and can dog food. If you can donate, we would truly appreciate it. If you can donate we would truly appreciate it.”

On the average, the shelter takes in between six and nine animals each day. The latest arrivals, mostly dogs are victims of animal cruelty cases and can not be adopted until the courts decide their fates.

The shelter is not full, but officials say they are only a few cages and kennels left. Everyone gets fed twice a day. At this time, there are 120 dogs and 275 cats ready and able to be adopted. Then there are a few parakeets, rabbits and hamsters waiting for loving homes.

Why not adopt your new best friend. If you can’t please donate to their care, and if you are not able to do either, take some time and share this article with friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Be the voice for those who cannot speak.

  1. This shelter is a high kill shelter…… I hope local rescues can help out……. absolutely heartbreaking how an animal’s fate depends entirely on which shelter it ends up in…..
