Ten-year-old attacked and nearly killed by dolphins during swim experience

At the Dolphin Discovery experience in Cancun, Mexico, a 10-year-old girl was attacked by two dolphins during a swim experience. Lexi Yeo was bitten, bloodied and bruised after swimming with the dolphins in what has been a popular tourist attraction.

According to the Daily Mail, the girl’s horrified mother watched as a pair of bottlenose dolphins tried “dragging”  the screaming child underwater in the sea pen. Trainers attempted to plead with the dolphins to release the child who was able to stay afloat on her body board. Lexi suffered deep bite mark injuries, cuts and bruises to her legs and torso.

Officials from Dolphin Discovery stated the bad behavior was due to bad sea conditions which “distressed” the animals. In addition, the company blamed one particular male dolphin that “shouldn’t have been in the pen.”

It is not known why the dolphins attacked, but they are known for rough play and holding each other down -explaining what could have occurred. Maybe people shouldn’t be swimming with the dolphins and allow these beautiful creatures to live free?
