In Quinlan, Texas, a teen’s trained service dog was shot and killed outside of the family’s rural home on Sunday. The four-year-old golden retriever went outdoors for a dip in the pond, and shortly thereafter, Journey’s life ended.

According to a Facebook page, Justice4Journey, the Hunt County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the apparent act of animal cruelty involving the dog’s shooting outside of Hannah Westmoreland’s home. Journey was rushed to a vet for emergency treatment but died as a result of his wounds.

Journey had been specially trained to detect Hannah’s blood sugar. The closely knit town had raised $10,000 for a service dog for Hannah nearly four years ago to help the now 15-year-old manage her diabetes. Journey had been a constant companion to Hannah. The two were extremely bonded.

A GoFundMe has been set up to pay for Journey’s medical bills, a reward and another service dog.

Rest in peace Journey.

  1. What kind of monster would kill a beautiful dog like this! I hope they find the POS and lock them up for good. I can’t imagine the heartbreak for this girl. There is a special place in Hell for someone who would do such a thing and to a service dog to boot!

  2. This vile monster needs the same done to him when caught and hope that happens soon. To take this girls dog away from her and the good she serves, is beyond asking why? These are not people or kids who do this, but devils in disguise who need to be gone from this earth. Hope she gets another dog soon.
