A 15-year-old teenager in Las Vegas fought off a hawk that swooped down and tried to grab her two-pound Yorkshire terrier puppy. Cecilia Celis rescued Lulu outside in the yard on Friday.

“We were inside making tacos, and we hear crying. We just hear them barking and crying, so we are like ‘oh they’re just play fighting’ and a second later, I just look outside,” stated Cecilia. “We see a huge bird fly up, and I yell at the bird ‘get off my dog! Get off my dog.'”

According to Fox13News, the home videos shows the teen rushing out as the hawk already had its talons into the puppy getting ready to take off in flight. Cecilia can be seen hitting the hawk with a pillow several times until the hawk let go. A close-up of the hawk shows straps around its legs – leading the teen to believe the bird may be someone’s pet that escaped.

Fortunately Lulu survived her scary ordeal and did not suffer any serious injuries. The pup is expected to make a complete recovery.

  1. Belongs to A Falconer !!! with the straps … We have Falconer’s Here in our Area that Raise these Evil Birds and Sell them for THOUSANDS & THOUSANDS to Saudi Arabian’s What send in Boing 747 Jets to take them back to the Middle East where the Ultra Rich Oil Baron’s and Princes, etc. have contests in the desert !!!! UGG!!!!

  2. So glad this precious little treasure was saved and will recover. I hope the family will NEVER allow this precious little treasure to be outside alone again, ever…..

One should NEVER leave furbabies outside alone. Terrible things can happen very quickly……. ALWAYS supervise tiny (10 pounds or under) whenever they are outside (either on a short (~3’ or 4’) leash or in a roofed metal pet pen).

We have actually had hawks sit on the roof of our 2’ tall metal pet pen trying to get to the chihuahuas inside of it. (It took me armed with a metal baseball bat and a garden hose “on full blast” to get the hawk to leave & then s/he circled our yard for over 1.5 hours whilst I sat on the ground next to the pet pen trying to keep the chihuahuas calm)……. I had thought the dogs would be safe in the roofed pen whilst I did yard work in our orchard……

In our area we have coyotes and racoons in our neighborhood who will commonly snatch pets. In addition, we have large birds of prey (eagles and hawks) who migrate 2/year. Dogs and cats are not accustomed to “surveying the skies” and are often “snatched as a “free meal””…… to a large bird of prey, a dog or cat is “x pounds of easy food”, not a “treasured family member”……. Awful to think about, but it happens so frequently in our area…..

Pet parents MUST protect furbabies from aerial predators, land predators AND, most dangerous: human predators……. Scary world we live in…….

  3. What a brave girl to take on a big bird like that and save her puppy. You never know what is lurking I guess, I’m so glad the pup was saved.
