A teacher in North Carolina is facing a charge of animal cruelty following the discovery of a badly neglected dog who was covered in feces and urine. The dog, a Yorkshire terrier, was in such poor condition by the time she was found that she could not survive, reports ABC 11 News.
The woman facing charges for the neglect is identified as 61-year-old Chris Wright of Wake County; Wright is a teacher at Cedar Creek Middle School. In a voicemail message, Bart Elliott, the school’s principal, stated, “As a parent, I understand this news is upsetting.” Elliott has confirmed that the accused teacher has been suspended from her position – with pay.
After the neglected dog, named Josie, was discovered, she was taken to the Wake County animal shelter – her fur was horribly matted from the waste that she was forced to lay in and she was extremely malnourished. The fur around her mouth was “forced shut” because of the matting.
The woman accused of neglecting the dog has not provided any explanation about what happened.
