A badly injured dog was recently found in Kingstree, South Carolina. The dog, dubbed Walt, has a huge wound in his neck from a deeply embedded chain. On Thursday, the Williamsburg County Animal Care and Control reached out to Facebook followers about the disturbing case, writing:

Walt (ID# 0635) was picked up from Walter Rd in Kingstree with a chain embedded into his neck. As you can see, the cut is very large and deep.

Despite Walt’s horrible injury, he is “sweet and cheerful” to the animal welfare agency’s staff. The initial post made on Walt’t behalf included a plea for medical funds and a rescue group to take him in. Hours later, the animal control agency shared good news:

Good evening Facebook friends. Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who played a part in getting Walt the medical attention he needed. We would like to announce that Walt has been adopted by one of the lovely staff members at Kingstree Animal hospital. She will continue with his treatment while he is still there. We would like to thank you all again for helping Walt.
