Still waiting: Avery’s owner kicked her to curb but she is perfect dog

In Youngstown, Ohio, Avery waits for a new home. The four-year-old mixed breed arrived at Mahoning County Dog Warden on April 2. Her previous owner had kicked her to the curb, and when Avery’s photo as a stray had been posted on social media, her former owner commented that she no longer wanted Avery and was glad she was at the shelter.

After her owner abandoned Avery, she purchased another dog. Poor Avery was dispensable; her life didn’t matter much now did it?

“Avery is in our small dog room where she can have peace and quiet and not feel so confined. She has the whole room to herself. She suffers from horrible anxiety if she is in a kennel on the adoption floor.

When we first brought her up she drooled, licked the bars and panted constantly. She was so frantic that we could not wait a day to see if she improved in her kennel…”

And so Avery was put in a separate room room and has since been placed on anxiety medication. Although she is lonely, there has been a huge improvement in her behavior.

On Sunday, the shelter reported peeking in at Avery finally able to sleep peacefully.

“Yesterday when I was leaving work I peeked in the window at Avery and found her fast asleep. She’s in our ‘small dog room’ all alone at the front of the building but is definitely not a small dog…”

Avery needs a family and a home. She needs to belong to someone and not spend so much time alone. She loves to play with toys and can easily entertain herself as long as someone is close by. Otherwise she does not play … she just waits…”

Avery is dog friendly (maybe selective?) and possibly good with cats. She has not been tested with children. Please share her plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Avery deserves a home where she is loved and feels comfortable. If you’re ready for “endless snuggles” your search has ended.

Avery’s adoption fee is $150 which includes her license, rabies vaccine, dewormer, heart worm test, spay/neuter, dapp vaccine, bravecto and bordetella vaccines.
