Animal lovers have declared a victory following the Supreme Court of Spain’s decision to put an end the torture of bulls at the “Toro de la Vega” festival. For years, several animal welfare organizations have worked to end the brutal, decades old tradition of chasing, stabbing and ultimately killing, bulls at the barbaric event.

Following the Supreme Court’s decision to end the cruel tradition, PETA commented on the victory, and the public’s desire to see these types of brutal events come to an end:

This victory is part of a wider movement in Spain, as more and more people are speaking out against festivals and other events in which bulls are tortured in the name of entertainment. To date, over 100 towns have banned bullfighting, and according to an Ipsos MORI poll, over 80 per cent of Spanish people oppose the cruel event. The tide is turning against this barbaric “tradition.”

Though the torture is over for bulls at the Toro de la Vega festival, it has not ended everywhere. PETA is calling for a demand to end bull fighting in every area of Spain. As the mindset about bullfighting changes, there is hope that a nationwide ban may someday become a reality.
