A South Carolina family is mourning the loss of their beloved mule, who was shot by someone on the night of December 5. Gus’ owner, Kaylyn Brown turned to social media to share the heartbreaking case of animal cruelty.
To the piece of crap that walked into our pasture and shot our mule last night, he’s gone now, I hope you’re proud of yourself. He did nothing to you, he caused no problems, but still, you thought it would be fun to shoot him.
Brown stated that Gus was her mom’s best friend, and that he “always brought her laughter.” Adding that he was the “most gentle soul you’d ever meet.”
Brown stated that Gus sought human love, even when he was in agony and unable to walk because of the two bullet wounds. Gus’ family transported him to the University of Georgia Equine Center – it was there that he was humanely euthanized.
Brown’s final words about the cruel situation:
You’ll never understand what you took from us, the overwhelming love we had for him. The cops may get you, but if they don’t, I know one thing for sure. There’s a special place reserved for you in hell, and you’ll rot there.
The cruelty case was reported to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, who in turn referred the family to animal control.
The family has started a fundraiser to raise money for a reward. Find the fundraiser here.
