Someone cut the front legs off of a kitten in Syracuse, New York, and a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever it was. As reported by Syracuse.com, the kitten, dubbed Star, was taken for veterinary care, but did not survive.

Now, the Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse has announced the offering of a $3,500 reward in the cruelty case. In a social media post, the agency writes:

The Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse’s Keeping Faith Program has increased the reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the recent torture of a kitten in Syracuse to $3,500.

According to AAGS President Donna Chambers,

“Donations to increase the amount of the reward have been flowing in. People are horrified by the brutality of this act, and want the perpetrators apprehended and punished to the maximum allowed by law.”

Chambers added:

“Such vicious behavior impoverishes our community as a whole. While we believe that animals have intrinsic value, according to the National Link Coalition, ‘Mistreating animals is no longer seen as an isolated incident that can be ignored: it is often an indicator or predictor crime and a “red flag” warning sign that other family members in the household may not be safe.’ Due to contributions from the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), our local Volunteer Advocate Lawyers for Animal Abuse Court (VALAC) organization, and many CNY citizens, AAGS has been able to make this additional offer.”

The Details

The Syracuse Police Department was called to the 100 block of Schneider Street, in the city of Syracuse, on July 25. There they discovered the kitten with no front legs and other fresh wounds. Veterinary professionals determined that the kitten’s legs had been amputated. Officer Tara Kalil, the Syracuse Police Department’s Animal Cruelty Investigator, is seeking the public’s help with any information that may assist in in apprehending the perpetrator of this heinous crime.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Officer Kalil at 315-442-5336 or [email protected].

  1. OMG: a future serial killer…… whoever did this MUST be stopped ASAP before they “graduate” to humans!!!

There is a reserved space in Hell waiting for them where they will burn forever for their cruelty.

Was she euthanized solely because of her amputated legs???

My husband and I specifically adopt “medically fragile” animals and provide whatever they need, including chemotherapeutic treatment, physical rehabilitation……
We have had several animals with heart conditions, blind, quadriplegic, cancer, epilepsy….. we are NOT afraid of dealing with health care…….
I am sorry this treasure wasn’t given any chance of being rehomed.
Rescued is my fave breed and they are all special treasures who want to love and be loved……

  2. Wish the story explained more about why this precious kitten could not be saved. Here is an idea: instead of spending millions down the road on a death penalty trial that is bound to happen when this psych graduates to people, let’s offer 250000 dollar reward now. Guarantee perp will be located. And quick!
