Six dogs waited patiently for the homeless man who has been caring for them outside of a hospital in Brazil on Wednesday after the man suffered a minor stroke.

According to the local newspaper G1, the Brazilian man, known in the area by locals as Luiz, has been homeless for 20 years and although his family has reached out to help him numerous times, Luiz is just content to be with his six dogs.

The dogs spent the entire day in front of the Santa Casa hospital after Luiz was hospitalized and would not leave the front door until the next morning when their human was released. The dogs howled in distress. According to the Amigos de Patas, volunteer Simone Ziliane, the next day when Luiz was released and exited through a different door, the dogs were still there standing vigil.

“The dogs were desperate. On Thursday morning when his Luiz was discharged and left with his brother through another door, the dogs remained at the hospital entrance. One of the volunteers from the NGO had to fetch her Luiz at his brother’s house and take him to where the dogs were for them to leave the front.” [translation]

Luiz receives support food and support from volunteers in Brazil to eat and shower.  The NGO Amigos de Patas feeds and checks on the welfare of the dogs.  They are are neutered and vaccinated. Luiz returned to the streets one day later and reunited with his dogs he regards as his family.

  1. THIS is UNCONDITIONAL LOVE ABOVE & BEYOND!!! Luis has provided not only nutrition, vaccinations, contraceptive care, HE HAS PROVIDED the MOST VALUABLE GIFT ::::: Himself and His undivided Attention and LOVE , SECURITY and a SENSE of WORTH :: They NEED HIM and HE NEEDS them!!!! Even his Family understands That!!! AWESOME!!!!

  2. Dogs are so incredibly loyal, and helpless without their human(s). The word “vaccines” leapt out at me up there. I hope each and every one of the six dogs somehow manages to avoid any damages and that they never lose their man again. We’ve had several bad vaccine reactions in dogs in the past: one who got distemper after the vaccines but survived, another who died, one who had anaphylactic swelling after the rabies shot and needed emergency treatment, one that developed incurable bone cancer following the vaccine cocktail and died within a year at only 4 yrs old, others with chronic skin conditions, tumors, the illnesses go on. Many dogs we’ve had with no vaccines have never caught a communicable disease even while at the vet’s all day for spaying/neutering and who’ve had FAR fewer lifetime health problems (often none) than the vaccinated dogs. In my experience, vaccines aren’t safe or effective.
