Shelter takes in dog in a cereal box

A dog taken in at a busy California animal shelter garnered a great deal of attention thanks to the rather odd “pet carrier” he (or she?) was dropped off in. On July 9, Riverside County Animal Services posted an adorable image of the small pup in a Captain Crunch Berries Cereal box, writing:

We have seen some creative pet carriers in our days. This @RealCapnCrunch cereal box has to be one of the oddest ways a pet came to us as an over-the-counter dropoff. We handled all its fleas and now hope an owner arrives.

While odd, the photo of the pooch in a cereal box seemed to work like magic for creating interest from potential adopters. Comments on the image reveal a large number of people who want to give the pup a home:

 I will give him or her a wonderful loving home.

And:

I want to adopt this dog. I can provide an amazing loving home. Please tell me how I can contact you, what his id # is.

As well as a suggestion for the shelter based on the response to this dog’s cute photo:

 look at all the people that are interested in giving this cutie a loving home!!! So, just an idea….put all the pups and kitties in cereal boxes and it would surely get people to adopt a pet from our overcrowded shelters🤗🤗🤗 Right!!?? I got plenty of cereal boxes!! Where can I drop them off? Lol

The shelter did not provide an identification number for this pup, or details about who brought him/her in. Judging by the interest on the animal care center’s Facebook page, the pup will likely find a home if an owner does not come forward soon.
