Dog lovers worried about the fate of a young dog who was viciously beaten with a shovel received word of her condition on Monday afternoon. The Charleston Animal Society released several photos of the pit bull, Zena, and informed page followers about her injuries from the attack.
The animal welfare agency stated:
She suffered hemorrhaging in both eyes, swelling and bruising over her right eye and in the right side of her mouth as a result of the impact from the shovel. There is significant bruising and some damage to the right eye (bleeding inside the eye itself) There is also bruising in the ears and inside the mouth on the right side.
Adding:
Despite having survived such a horrific experience, Zena was giving Charleston Animal Society staff kisses and hugs. She is being monitored and cared for at the shelter and will probably be placed in a foster home to help her heal further.
Arrested
Police arrested 41-year-old David Beach on Sunday. Beach allegedly attacked Zena with the shovel after she had an accident inside. By the time deputies responded to the scene, Beach had already dug a hole to bury the young dog in.
