A Texas animal shelter is in crisis mode after more than 300 animals were taken in over just six days of time. As reported by WFAA News, the Fort Worth Animal Care and Control facility is at capacity because of the overwhelming number of unwanted pets being taken in.
Shelter superintendent Jessica Brown told the news agency, “We’ve taken in 302 animals since Sunday of this week, so we’re definitely experiencing a space crisis here at the shelter.” Less than a week ago, the animal control agency alerted Facebook followers to the overwhelming situation:
Urgent, the animals in our shelter need your immediate help!
With all the great things taking place at the shelter – new foster families, rescue organizations saving our pets, and our monthly transport program, the intake numbers keep increasing at a dramatic rate…
In the past four days, Sunday – Tuesday, the shelter took in 266 animals! Tuesday’s intake was 94 total animals!

Our immediate need is for adopters and foster parents for medium and large dogs. We are caring for well over 600 animals.

Main campus shelter, 4900 Martin St in Fort Worth.
Noon-6 p.m. every day.
Adoptions fees remain at $10 and include spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.

I feel so helpless being in Northern California……. I could help Chihuahuas (& other tiny breeds) & special needs (extensive experience with quadriplegic, blind, heart disease, cancer)……. but I am very far away………
I truly hope the community can help (so there will not be a massive euthanasia of these animals) AND the shelter can get more spay and neuter programs in place.
I think there should be education by the shelter on responsible pet ownership……
The other thing that I think would really help is a volunteer group maintaining listings of pet friendly rentals!!!
I have heard this shelter does “very good” things. Please help them–they REALLY need it!
