A severely malnourished, abandoned foal was found on Thursday morning by contractors near Quibell Lane in Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom. The black and white foal may have been lying in the same spot for days.
According to the rescue group, Help for Horses, was close to death when found and weighed less than 200 pounds. Emergency fluids are being administered for his severe dehydration to save his life. Rescue volunteers have named him Turnip.
“Many thanks to the Severn Trent contractors, Mr. Jackson and Help for Horses volunteers for giving up their time to help with lifting and rescuing the poor foal,” Janice Dixon, the owner of the rescue organization posted on Facebook.
On Friday, Turnip’s update was posted:
TURNIP UPDATE
Thanks for all the concern and love for Turnip. He is still with us, still fighting. He’s absolutely exhausted and very weak but is trying his best. It’s still early days but we’re all keeping our fingers crossed.”
