Senior Howard left at shelter by owner at age 14 is giving up

At the Harris County Animal Shelter, Howard was left behind by his owner at the age of 14; he looks as if he is giving up.

A volunteer describes this senior’s plight, and it is truly heartbreaking:

“…is heartbreaking to see many pet owners coming to shelters to surrender their pets but even harder when they are seniors. This is Howard and owner states cannot keep him because ‘landlord’ which I really doubt.

Howard is broken, he is neutered male 14-years old Bichon mix, weighs 12 lbs and tested heartworm negative…”

While being examined at the shelter, the staff did notice he had some breathing difficulties and will need further evaluation. He just may have been very anxious because of the crowds, the noise and his owner walking away.
