A senior dog died days after being hit by a UPS truck. According to WYFF News, the 10-hear-old Chihuahua, named Sam, was in his yard in Fountain Hill, South Carolina, when the delivery driver ran over him with the truck.

Sam’s owner, Taylor Hogan, believes that the driver was negligent because Sam was on the grass portion of her lawn when the driver backed over him, crushing both of his legs. She told the news agency, “My dog was not in the road. He was not even on the driveway.’ She added, “He was in our lawn on the grass. They backed over him. They need to pay these vet bills.”

Hogan paid thousands to treat Sam’s injuries…and he ultimately died a few days later – she said,

“The vet thinks Sam died from a blood clot. He never left my arms when I got him home and he stared into my eyes the entire time. I held him and kissed him and sang to him and talked about all our favorite memories. I lost my best friend and the love of my life, he was my whole world.”

Hogan claims that the company refused to apologize, or pay any of the veterinary bills – UPS told WYFF News that the incident remains under investigation.

  1. This Happened to Our 10 year old Chow and Shepard Mix 8 years ago !!! UPS again… the driver pulled up into our drive way ( we live on acreage SO there was No Traffic or Room Restrictions… the driver backed out and around in a circular fashion running over our gentle and loving 80 pound dog laying down on his stomach in the sun IN FRONT OF HIS KENNEL Sunning. Thus Breaking His BACK!!! The ground was soft from the recent mist of the mornings and showed EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!!! I took Photos :: I called out vet and we sat with Our Cowboy waiting for our Vet to make the emergency trip out and he died while his pheasant buddy ( that came by every day) stood over at the side of the road watching .. THIS could have been a small Child!!! These Driver’s Really need to go a little slower on their routes …. I blame UPS CORPORATE for the Stringent Schedule they Insist on !!! My thoughts are with YOU…

  2. There is no excuse for a UPS driver to hit a dog in it’s yard. I can understand if the dog was in the driveway, an accident could happen, but you don’t back into a yard! My sincere condolences to Taylor Hogan for her loss of Sam. I agree with her the driver and company should be responsible for the vet bills. I hope she is able to get some justice for her best friend.

  3. These UPS drivers must be held accountable for their flagrant disregard for people’s pets while making deliveries. There is such great emphasis on being fast that drivers are more than careless on their stops. I strongly urge the owner to sue not only UPS but the driver individually and to seek not only medical expenses for the injury caused to the dog but punitive damages for negligence as well. Maybe if UPS has to pay enough money they will begin to train drivers to be more careful where animals are around when they make deliveries.
