Seagull carried away miniature Chihuahua from Devon garden

On Sunday afternoon, a woman’s four-year-old miniature Chihuahua was carried away by a seagull. Becca Hill, 24, from Paignton, has asked for the public’s help reuniting her with her beloved dog.

According to the Doglost.co.uk Facebook page, this kind of occurrence is very rare and not typical of seagull behavior. The dog had been playing in the backyard when the gull swooped down and flew away with the nine-inch dog. On DevonLive, Becca described what occurred.

“My partner was in the garden putting the washing out at the time and suddenly he saw it swoop down. It carried Gizmo a fair way as we couldn’t see him anymore. I have no idea if he was dropped or where he is now.”

Becca’s six-year-old daughter did not see Gizmo snatched up by the bird, however is very upset. It is hoped the dog can be found and returned home.

Hill, who owns three Chihuahuas, has never heard of seagulls snatching dogs. Volunteers have been searching rooftops, garage roofs and trees and trying to retrace the entire area where the seagull may have flown.

OMG!!! I am horrified by this news……. Where we live, there are twice yearly migrations of hawks and eagles. Hawks, eagles and owls will ALL snatch small dogs and cats…… to us our pets are precious little treasures who are absolutely beloved family members……. to a bird of prey, our furbabies are “free food”…….
I hope and pray this precious little treasure is found alive………
Please update this story, even if the news is sad…………
