Volunteers at the City of Shasta Lake Animal Shelter have named the saddest dog in the shelter “Hope” because that’s what everyone wants for the border collie and hound dog mix. She was picked up as a stray, and no one ever came to find her.

“Not sure if I have ever seen a dog so sad in the shelter…,” stated a volunteer from Save the Nor-Cal Shelter dogs group, posting Hope’s photo and video on social media to help her find a home.

Friends sing her praises and describe her as very sweet, but “she does howl when she’s sad.”

Hope is available for adoption or rescue. She is thought to be one or two years of age and gets along with other dogs. Please share her plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. Follow her story on Facebook.

  1. Poor baby, seems unreal that someone wouldn’t be looking for this beautiful girl. Keeping her in our prayers that she finds a loving home.

  2. Hope looks like she was well taken care of. Her nails are short, she looks clean from the picture. I wonder is somehow she got out and wandered a good distance away from her own and was found and brought to this shelter. These shelters should advertise lost dogs not just in local papers but in neighboring areas. There have been dogs that have been found quite a distance away from their home and picked up in another town. More ads to show these missing dogs in neighboring communities. Pray Hope gets her family back or at least a new one that will give her a new forever home.

  3. She is MISSING her Master or Mistress!!! Someone could have taken her away for her home and got afraid and dumped!!! I hope they will advertise and check with other area’s to see if someone has reported her as missing!!! I Sure hope for a good outcome for her… she is a beauty
