On Wednesday,  Barnaby was welcomed to Renee’s Rescues in Delaware. A victim of dog fighting, Barnaby suffered from multiple trauma injuries. He was immediately rushed to an emergency veterinary hospital for life saving treatment. The best attempts to save the dog’s life began here.

“Delaware non-profit, Pit Bull Pride of Delaware who is on an intake hiatus. This dog came to an emergency vet last night by his owner with wounds from a dog fight. Upon examination, the animal also exhibits old scarring. He is being surrendered to Renee’s Rescues. In order to save his life, he needs to have both ears removed, in addition to both eardrums. He has open infected wounds all over his body and will need several days of emergency care.

He’s in the ICU at an undisclosed emergency vet and will be there for over a week. He will also need to have both ears and eardrums removed.”

His rescuers were momentarily optimistic the dog would survive:

Sadly, on Friday afternoon, Barnaby’s prognosis took a turn for the worse when he presented with a heart murmur which had not been diagnosed when he first arrived.

“The treating vet believes the endocardiosis is a result of infection. We have asked them to do a 4DX test which tests for Heartworm disease, Lyme, Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis. Should this test negative, then we know the inflammation is due to infection.”

Sadly Barnaby did not make it; he will be mourned by everyone.

“It is with great sadness that Renee’s Rescues and Pit Bull Pride of Delaware announce the loss of Barnaby. In a brief period, Barnaby touched the hearts of animal lovers across the map.

If love alone could have saved you, you would have lived forever.

In loving memory of Barnaby.”

Rest in peace sweet dog. Be the voice for those who cannot speak. If you see something, say something. How many more dogs just like Barnaby are waiting to be rescued?
