The Oregon Humane Society (OHS) is offering a reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of whoever shot a dog in the face and chest. According to the animal welfare agency, the three-to-five-year-old female terrier mix was discovered on Aug. 11 by a hill off Hwy. 224, close to the Promontory campground.

Good Samaritans who were in the area watching a meteor-shower found the dog, who has been dubbed Bear. The family took the injured dog to VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists for treatment.

OHS describes the dog’s injuries:

It appears Bear was shot in the face, breaking her jaw and fracturing teeth. A wound on her chest is consistent with a bullet exiting her body.  She has additional wounds on her face and neck. Because of the severity and complexity of Bear’s wounds, Clackamas County Dog Services reached out to OHS to continue her medical treatment and open an investigation.

“It’s hard to imagine the kind of pain that Bear has endured,” says Leon Colas, OHS Vice President of Humane Investigations and Law Enforcement. “We are hopeful that someone knows something about who did this.”
