It’s hard to imagine a dog in Houston neglected like this. For more than a month, this dog’s owner watched him suffer in tremendous pain. Everyday the dog seemed to give up just a little more.

A Chance to Bloom Dog Rescue volunteered to help on Monday after ThisIsHouston, had been alerted to this poor soul.

“Amanda and Alicia headed out immediately to check out the situation. It was much worse than anyone expected. This dog was owned, he got hit by a car at least a month ago. They just watched him suffer for a month in tremendous pain, slowly and painfully giving up a little more each day.
His ears are so infected that maggots are oozing out with the debris from inside,” the rescue organization posted on their Facebook page with the heartbreaking video and photos of the dog.

And Monday became the dog’s lucky day. Now dubbed Louie, he was rushed to an emergency veterinarian. Emaciated, his back fractured and his ears full of maggots, how in a city with so many advantages and so much beauty, could a dog be left to suffer in such excruciating pain? How many people just walked by?

“Louie’s back is broke at the 1st lumbar vertebrae, right where the ribs end. There is a lot of fusing of the spine going on due to the injury trying to heal itself after a month. There isn’t really a way to do a reset where it is located but we will see what the specialists say for our sweet boy.”

Check out his video when rescued:
